Where does the medication come from?

The medication is shipped from a UK-registered pharmacy, licensed and regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council, ensuring its safety and authenticity.

How long does it take for the medication to arrive?

Your medication will be dispatched immediately after your consultation and should arrive within 24–48 hours in discreet packaging.

How effective is the medical abortion pill?

The abortion pill is highly effective, with up to a 98% success rate for pregnancies under 8 weeks. For pregnancies up to 10 weeks, it is around 87% effective. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, additional medication or an in-clinic procedure may be necessary.

What Happens If You Do Not Use Misoprostol In Time?

While it’s recommended to take Misoprostol 24 hours after Mifepristone, it can still be effective if taken between 12 and 72 hours later. Always follow the instructions provided by your doctor for the best outcome.

How Long After Mifepristone Can I Take Misoprostol?

We recommend taking Misoprostol 24 hours after Mifepristone for the best results. However, taking Misoprostol slightly earlier or later (within a range of 12–72 hours) will not affect the outcome of your abortion.

Do I Have To Wait 24 Hours To Take Misoprostol?

It is advised to take Misoprostol 24 hours after swallowing Mifepristone, but it can also be used within a flexible window of 12 to 72 hours. Always follow your doctor’s instructions for optimal results.

Can I Take Misoprostol 6 Hours After Mifepristone?

If waiting 24 hours is not possible, we recommend waiting at least 12 hours before taking Misoprostol to ensure effectiveness. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns about timing.

What If I Take Misoprostol When I Am Not Pregnant?

If you take Misoprostol when not pregnant, it won’t harm your health. However, you may experience mild side effects like cramping or nausea for up to 24 hours. Fun fact: Misoprostol is also used safely in non-pregnant individuals to prevent and treat stomach ulcers.

About the abortion

How does medical abortion work?

Medical abortion uses medication to safely end a pregnancy. The process involves two medicines:

1. Mifepristone: This blocks the hormone progesterone, which is necessary for the pregnancy to grow.

2.Misoprostol: Taken 24–48 hours later, it softens the cervix and causes uterine contractions to expel the pregnancy.

To help manage discomfort, we include pain relief tablets in your kit and recommend taking them 10 minutes before using Misoprostol.

Does medical abortion hurt?

A medical abortion can cause discomfort, similar to intense period cramps. This is because it mimics a natural miscarriage. To help, our kit includes high-dose pain relief tablets to minimize any discomfort during the process.

Do I need an ultrasound scan?

Most people don’t need an ultrasound. However, we recommend one if you have a higher risk of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the uterus) or if your pregnancy is further along than 10 weeks.

What is an ectopic pregnancy?

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in the fallopian tubes. While rare, it can be a medical emergency. If you are at higher risk due to a history of ectopic pregnancy, we will arrange an ultrasound scan to ensure your safety.

What if I have an emergency after taking my medication?

If you experience any urgent issues or emergencies, our GMC-licensed doctors are available 24/7. We’ll provide you with a dedicated phone number to contact us for immediate support. If your emergency is unrelated to your abortion medication, please call 999 or visit A&E as you normally would.

Does having an abortion affect my chances of getting pregnant in the future?

No, there is no evidence to suggest that having an abortion reduces your chances of getting pregnant in the future. Safe, medication-based abortions have no long-term effects on fertility.

Recovery

How do I know if the abortion is successful?

Pregnancy tests may remain positive for up to 4 weeks after your medication. To confirm a successful abortion, watch for these signs:

1. Cramping and heavy bleeding similar to a period after taking the second pill.

2. Pregnancy symptoms like nausea or breast tenderness should fade within a week of using the pills.

If you’re unsure, contact us for follow-up support.

How long should I bleed after I have taken the medication?

Bleeding can vary but is typically normal for 4 days to 4 weeks after taking the medication. Spotting and heavier bleeding may come and go during this time. Contact us if you’re concerned about your bleeding pattern.

How long does it take to recover from medical abortion?

Recovery varies for everyone, but most people feel better within a week. We recommend taking it easy for a few days and resuming normal activities only when you feel ready. Listen to your body and prioritize rest.

When can I use tampons?

We advise waiting at least 2 days after your abortion before using tampons or menstrual cups to reduce the risk of infection. During this time, you can use sanitary towels for comfort and safety.

When can I go back on birth control?

You can start most contraceptive methods, including birth control pills, on the same day you take your second pill. For more detailed guidance, visit the British Pregnancy Advisory Service website.

When can I have sex again?

You can have sex as soon as you feel ready. However, we recommend waiting until any bleeding has stopped to minimize the risk of infection. Use contraception if you want to avoid pregnancy.

Can You Eat And Drink After Taking Misoprostol?

Yes, you can eat and drink as you normally would after taking the abortion pill. However, avoid alcohol and recreational drugs, as they may interfere with your recovery and judgment.

Can You Drink Alcohol After Taking Misoprostol Abortion Pills?

It’s best to avoid alcohol after taking Misoprostol, as it can impair your judgment and may interfere with the healing process. Focus on staying hydrated with water or non-alcoholic beverages.

Can You Use Abortion Pills While Breastfeeding?

Yes, you can continue breastfeeding after using Mifepristone or Misoprostol. The risk of these medications affecting your baby is extremely low. Misoprostol may occasionally cause mild stomach upset or diarrhea in breastfed babies, but this is rare. If you have concerns, speak to your doctor for reassurance.

Can You Reverse Abortion Pills?

No, reversing abortion pills is not supported by any reliable medical evidence. Major medical organizations, including all leading colleges, reject this claim as unproven and unsafe. It’s essential to have all your questions answered before beginning treatment.

What Are The Possible Abortion Pill Complications And What Should You Do?

Heavy Bleeding (occurs in less than 1% of medical abortions)

Heavy bleeding is rare but serious. Signs include soaking through more than 2 maxi sanitary pads per hour for 2 consecutive hours or feeling dizzy or lightheaded. If you experience these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately for guidance and support.

Treatment for heavy bleeding:

Heavy bleeding may require vacuum aspiration (curettage). If you experience heavy bleeding, take two Misoprostol tablets under your tongue immediately if available, and seek hospital care. Blood transfusions are rarely needed (less than 0.2%).

Symptoms and Treatment for an Incomplete Abortion

Symptoms: Persistent heavy bleeding or severe pain.
Treatment: You may need to take two additional Misoprostol tablets or undergo a vacuum aspiration procedure. Contact a healthcare provider for guidance.

Infection After Abortion

Symptoms: Fever higher than 38°C (100.4°F) lasting more than 24 hours, or unusual pain.
Treatment: Infections are treated with antibiotics or, in some cases, a vacuum aspiration. Seek immediate medical care if you suspect an infection.

Miscarriage vs. Abortion Symptoms

The symptoms of a miscarriage and abortion using pills are identical. A doctor cannot differentiate between the two after the pills have dissolved.

If you used Misoprostol sublingually (under the tongue), the pills dissolve within 30 minutes.
If used vaginally, ensure the pills have fully dissolved. Some traces may remain for up to 4 days.

For confirmation or concerns, consult your healthcare provider.

Ongoing Pregnancy

Ongoing pregnancy happens in less than 1% of cases. It can be detected with a pregnancy test three weeks after taking the pills or through an ultrasound within 10 days.
Treatment: To address an ongoing pregnancy, you may need a repeat medical abortion or a surgical procedure. Contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

How Long Do You Bleed After Taking the Abortion Pill?

Heavy bleeding typically starts 2-5 hours after using Misoprostol and slows down within 24 hours. The amount and duration of bleeding may vary depending on the individual. If heavy bleeding persists, consult a healthcare professional.

How Long Does Bleeding Last After Abortion Pills?

Light bleeding or spotting can continue for 1-3 weeks after using the abortion pills. This varies from person to person.
Your normal menstrual cycle should return within 4-6 weeks.
